NRB President Says Jerusalem ‘Should Not Be A Bargaining Chip’
WASHINGTON (NRB) — In response to President Trump’s decision to delay relocating the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of National Religious Broadcasters, issued the following statement today:
“U.S. administrations have delayed enforcing the law for 20 years and to what effect? America’s recognition of the capital city of our foremost and only democratic ally in the Middle East should not be a bargaining chip. I am disappointed, but I take the President at his word that this is only a delay in delivering on his promise.”
Johnson participated in a Jerusalem Day press conference on May 23 in Washington, D.C., in which he joined other leaders in calling for the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in accordance with the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act.
At Proclaim 17, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in February, the association’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution expressing support for Israel. The Board called on NRB members to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” and for the U.S. “to stand steadfastly by Israel, even as others malign, abandon, or attack her.” They also urged Christians to “reject and guard against the dangerous Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.”
